Dave Wilson

Dave Wilson worked for 18 years in PR/Corporate Communications doing, among other things, writing and photography to promote businesses ranging from Yamaha Marie and Shimano Fishing Tackle to local antique stores and auto dealers. He recently returned to school to add an associate’s degree in graphic design to his existing bachelor’s in journalism.

Since 2005 Dave has also been passionate about nature and landscape photography. His photographs of wild places in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and beyond combine three basic elements. 1) Originality: The best perspective is the one nobody else has seen. Achieving this often involves taking a more interpretive than documentary approach to composition. 2) Simplicity: Creativity is not the ability to make the simple complicated; it is the ability to make the complicated simple. 3) Transcendence: That indescribable quality that enables a photograph to transcend mere “pretty” and exist in the realm of “beautiful.”

Dave’s work has been exhibited at the Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix, the University Club of Phoenix, the Arizona State Capitol building, Gammage Auditorium at ASU, and many other places. Permanent collections include 45 large images at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale and 34 at University Medical Center (U of A) in Tucson. Dave’s photographs have also been published in magazines, calendars and the cover of YellowBook.

As an outdoor enthusiast, Dave is also the author of Ruins Seldom Seen (Falcon Publishing, 1999, 2011), a guidebook combining the subjects of hiking and archaeology.
